9:30 am | Torah Study with Dr. Steve Chervin – Yishmael, My Son, Bless Me "One Yom Kippur, the High Priest enters into the Holy of Holies to burn incense in the Innermost Sanctum. All alone, full of dread, feeling the string tied tightly around his right ankle, he moves forward slowly. Until he hears a Voice say, 'Yishmael, My son, bless Me…'" A Talmudic midrash imagines an encounter between the High Priest and God on Yom Kippur; we'll also imagine the event. | In-Person: Paradies Hall |
3 – 4:30 pm | Beit Midrash (Study Hall) with Dr. Andy Zangwill and Steve Grossman – Perilous Waters: The Jonah and Noah Stories Compared Jonah’s Hebrew name, Yonah, also means "dove," the winged messenger sent out from the Ark by Noah. God warns both Noah and Jonah about His intent to destroy a wicked population, but Noah and Jonah respond quite differently to the tasks set for them by God. In this session, we explore the similarities and differences in their stories and explore the lessons that can be learned by comparing them. Noah and Jonah have agreed to participate in this study session. | In-Person: Srochi Auditorium |
