NCJW Repro Shabbat

National Council of Jewish Women Repro Shabbat @ AA

What is NCJW Repro Shabbat?

In 2021, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), in partnership with hundreds of synagogues and organizations across the country, set aside the Shabbat when we read Parshat Mishpatim as Repro Shabbat. At AA, this is an opportunity to learn about the Jewish laws governing termination of pregnancy and to hear experts discuss the status of reproductive health and rights in Georgia and the role each of us can play in protecting reproductive rights.

Repro Shabbat Agenda:

  • 10:30 – 11:30 (Cavalier) Torah Study
Lois Frank will discuss Mishpatim, Exodus 21:22 – 25, and the Jewish laws governing the termination of pregnancy.
  • 11:30 – 12:00 (Sanctuary) Sermon
Rabbi Laurence Rosenthal will give the sermon, "Jewish Views on the Sanctity of Life and Terminating Pregnancy."
  • 12:45 – 2:00 (Paradies) Post-Kiddush Panel:  Reproductive Health and Rights in Georgia
An exciting discussion facilitated by Susie Greenberg, National Council of Jewish Women, Atlanta section, Co-President, and chaired by Nancy Levine, AA Executive Vice President.

Torah Study 🔀

Join us every Shabbat morning for Torah Study, where lay leaders, rabbis, and congregants lead lively discussions about the weekly parashat. This discussion requires no special knowledge and is designed to deepen your understanding and appreciation of the Torah and the wisdom of our Sages.

Tu B'Shvat Seder Experience ⏺️

Step away from the rush of daily life and enjoy an inspiring hour of learning, tasting, and growth.

Celebrate Tu B'Shvat with a special Seder of juice, fruit, and meaningful conversation as we explore the deeper spiritual, environmental, and mystical themes of the New Year of the Trees. Through readings, reflection, and discussion, this Seder offers a relaxed yet enriching space to connect with tradition, community, and the rhythms of nature.

Kesher (Pre-K–6th Grade) ⏺️

Kesher is Hebrew for "connection," and connection is at the center of everything we do. Kesher is Ahavath Achim Synagogue's Jewish school program for children Pre-K through 6th grade.

The Kesher program meshes Jewish holidays and values and children's interests into a child-centered, project-based curriculum. We believe in teaching children to view relationships and interactions with others and the environment through the lens of ten Jewish values (listed below). We create confident and curious Jewish learners in a safe space where they can take risks, question, play, learn, explore, engage, create, make meaning, and love. We foster the child's sense of Jewish self-discovery by providing a nurturing environment where each person can explore and create their own identity.

The Kesher program is generously endowed by the Judith and Aaron z"l Alembik Ahavath Achim Youth Education Program.
