Shabbat & Yizkor Service — Honoring Those Who Served 🔀

Sat, May 23-9:30 AM-12:30 PM
Event Series (See All)

As we gather to welcome Shabbat this Memorial Day weekend, Congregation Ahavath Achim invites you to join us for a special service honoring the extraordinary men and women who have given — and given everything — in defense of our nation, our democracy, and the freedoms we hold dear.

For years, this meaningful tribute was lovingly sustained by our own Colonel Donald Gilner ז"ל, whose memory continues to inspire us. This year, we are honored to carry that legacy forward with one of our own — Dr. Avital K. Cohen, Bronze Star recipient, Army Captain, and co-President of AA Sisterhood.

This is also Day II of Shavuot. All are welcome — in person or virtually via Zoom.

Dr. Cohen's story is one of remarkable courage and compassion. After earning her doctorate in psychology, she served four years on active duty in the United States Army — including a 2010 deployment to Iraq with a Special Forces unit, where she provided critical mental health support to soldiers in combat. Stateside, she served as Interim Chief of Outpatient Mental Health Services at Fort Benning's Martin Army Community Hospital. Today, she brings that same dedication home to Atlanta as founder of Peachtree Pediatric Psychology and a beloved leader in our Ahavath Achim community.

Come honor the fallen, celebrate the living, and lift up those who served — shoulder to shoulder with a fellow congregant who wore that uniform with distinction.

Dr. Cohen will address the congregation at 11:30 AM, followed by our traditional Yizkor service.
