The Spring Great Big Recycling Event

Sun, May 3 @ 9:30 AM–1:00 PM

Great Big Recycling Event

How can we repurpose or responsibly recycle items that can't go into our regular recycling?

How can we keep harmful contaminants out of landfills?

We'll help you!

Bring your recyclables to the Spring GBRE on Sunday, May 3.

  • Open to AA Synagogue members and participants of the JWV Blood Drive

AA Greening Group volunteers will help you unload and take most items to CHaRM (the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) for you!

We will accept ONLY the items listed below. Please note that many items have charges. We will weigh what you bring. Remember – real humans sort your recyclables. So please be respectful!

  • Styrofoam: e.g. coolers, appliance packaging, clean, bagged
  • Small appliances (55 cents per pound)
  • TV's and monitors ($25.00 each)
  • Electronics, electric cords, batteries (NO alkaline) and chargers (55 cents per pound)
  • Fluorescent bulb tubes: ($1.00 fee each)
  • Plastic pill bottles (with recycling numbers 1, 2, or 5)
  • Glass bottles, clean and dry, no lids (35 cents per pound)
  • Books: Hardback or paperback
  • Plastic bags: Clean bags that stretch like grocery bags (but not crackly ones)
  • Plastic film (filmy white or CLEAN food service like Saran wrap)
  • Plastic containers: With triangular recycle sign # 1, 2, 4, 5 or 6. Must be clean, empty and dry! Not smelly!
  • Soda cans (clean and dry – rinse out sugared sodas!) These are super valuable for recycling!
  • Household chemicals: Herbicides, pesticides, bug spray, drain cleaner etc. (85 cents per pound)
  • Scrap metals

EXTRA! EXTRA! Spring GBRE EXTRA!

We are collecting bicycles that can be refurbished and given away.

We'll deliver them to a non-profit called Global Spokes (globalspokes.info). Global Spokes supports various organizations that help refugees as well as individuals who really, really need transportation. Their volunteers repair used bikes and then donate them. Every bike that is donated by Global Spokes comes with a helmet, lock, and safety lights. Wow! The bikes must be repairable – no busted plastic Big Wheels, and not the twisted bike that got run over in your driveway.

Contact us if you need someone to collect your bike, or bring it to the GBRE on May 3. We'll do the rest! Thank you for participating in this mitzvah!
