SUMMARY:Mincha/Seudah Sheleshet/Ma'ariv/Havdallah—Cheshbon HaNefesh 🔀📯
DESCRIPTION:Join us each week as we say goodbye to Shabbat and start the following week anew. Prayer\, Torah reading\, a short study with the rabbi\, a light seudah sheleshet (third meal)\, and a musical havdallah will be part of this experience! \n\n\n Soul Relationships: An Elul Accounting\nIn Elul\, we are instructed to perform a "Cheshbon HaNefesh\, "a soul accounting. Our soul can be conceptualized in terms of relationships with everything… aspects of ourselves\, the people around us\, and our environment. In this exercise\, we will use this framing of "What is my soul's relationship to this?" to measure our progress over the last year. \nAs we close out Shabbat afternoon over five weeks\, beginning with the first Saturday evening in Elul and ending with Motzei Shabbat Shuva\, we will do a brief text study and then complete an "accounting" of a category of soul relationships to identify areas of teshuva ("return") as we enter the High Holiday season. We will update the description with texts—stay tuned! \n\nWeek 1 (Saturday\, September 7): "Inside Out"—An Exploration of the Two Inclinations; Measuring Relationships with Emotions\n\nResource sheets:\n\nEmotions\nInside Out—An Exploration of the Two Inclinations: Yetzer HaTov and Yetzer HaRah\n\n\n\n\nWeek 2 (Saturday\, September 14): Relationships with Environment\n\nResource sheet: Jewish Law and the Environment\n\n\nWeek 3 (Saturday\, September 21): "Elohai Neshama"—Relationships with Body\n\nResource sheet: Embodied Accounting\n\n\nWeek 4 (Saturday\, September 28): Relationships with Others\n\nResource sheet: To Be a Mentch: Chapter 6\n\n\nWeek 5 (Saturday\, October 5): Shabbat Shuva—Relationships with God\n\nSoul Relationships: An Elul Accounting Guide \n\n Join Zoom

SUMMARY:Reverse Tashlich ⏺️ *Rescheduled to 10/6*
DESCRIPTION:*The Peachtree Creek Reverse Tashlich cleanup has been rescheduled to Sunday\, October 6! We will still be cleaning the Peachtree Creek Greenway\, where the creek was badly battered by the flooding water brought on by Hurricane Helene. The waters brought a lot of debris\, which we hope to remove\, preventing it from flowing south into the Chattahoochee River (and eventually the ocean). Please register for the new date using the link below.\n \n— \nJoin AA's Greening Group for Reverse Tashlich! The ritual of Tashlich requires us to symbolically cast our sins into a body of moving water; Reverse Tashlich asks us to remove human-made trash from our rivers and streams\, much of which ultimately flows into our oceans. This year\, like last year\, we will clean the Peachtree Creek Greenway\, a beautiful walking/running path just a few miles east of AA. \nPlease arrive at the parking lot by 1:45 p.m. to register. All are welcome to stay on dry ground\, but if you plan on getting down and dirty\, be sure to wear boots. Please bring your own reusable water bottle. Gloves will be provided. \nThis is AA's sixth year participating\, and we will be one of over 250 Reverse Tashlich events across the globe on that day\, coordinated through Repair the Sea. SUMMARY:Tehillim (Psalms) Reading 🔀
DESCRIPTION:For those of us who feel helpless to change horrors in the world\, we are not helpless. Let us join together and recite Tehillim during the days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We invite you to join in reading for one hour each night to lift our voices collectively in agreement and together pray Tehillim for the security of the Jewish people\, for the safety and release of the hostages\, for peace and an end to this war\, for healing of those ill—physically\, mentally or spiritually—for any other need that we want to raise to HaShem. \n"If you only knew the power that lies in the verses of Tehillim and their effects in the celestial heights\, you would recite them all the time. Know that the chapters of Tehillim break through all barriers and soar aloft from level to level unimpeded. They intercede before the Master of the Universe and secure their effect with kindness and mercy."—Tzemach Tzedek\, the 3rd Lubavitcher Rebbe \nIf you are interested in joining\, please fill out the form (below)\, and pass it on to people you think would be interested. \nJoin us the following days in person or via Zoom: \n\nSunday\, October 6\, 5– 6 pm—Zoom\nMonday\, October 7\, 5– 6 pm—Zoom\nTuesday\, October 8\, 5– 6 pm—Zoom\nWednesday\, October 9\, 5– 6 pm—Zoom\nThursday\, October 10\, 5– 6 pm—Zoom\n\n Sign Up

SUMMARY:One Year Commemoration of the October 7 Massacre in Israel ⏺️
DESCRIPTION:On October 7\, 2023\, Israel endured the deadliest attack on Jewish people in a single day since the Holocaust. On Simchat Torah\, a celebratory holiday of our Jewish heritage and pride\, Hamas terrorists breached the southern Gaza border and took 1\,200 innocent lives. There are still more than 100 hostages still in Gaza from more than eight different nations\, showing that this is not just a Jewish or Israeli issue. It is an issue of humanity. And we must stand together to find comfort\, support\, and healing. \nIsrael remains a focal point in our work and community efforts. In light of recent events and the ongoing captivity of hostages\, we are committed to supporting those affected alongside our overseas partners. As we continue these vital efforts\, we must look forward and consider how we\, as a community\, will come together to mark the tragic events of October 7. Remembering is a fundamental aspect of Jewish tradition\, and we must honor those who lost their lives while remaining vigilant in safeguarding our freedom to practice our faith. \nThe Israeli government established an annual national day of remembrance on the Hebrew date of the 24th of Tishrei. For the first anniversary of this tragedy\, an additional ceremony will be held on the Gregorian date of October 7. Here in Atlanta\, the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta is organizing two significant community events to observe these dates: the Gregorian anniversary on October 7 and the Hebrew anniversary on October 27. Join AA and many Jewish Atlanta organizations for these meaningful events. \nThe event on October 27 is an experiential and educational program. It will feature an expo of ways to engage with Israel\, educational sessions led by community experts\, hands-on activities\, and a ceremony honoring the victims. \nRegistration is required to attend these events (links below). \n Register for October 7\n Register for October 27
