SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah 60th Community-Wide Holocaust Commemoration ⏺️
DESCRIPTION:Join us rain or shine at the Memorial to the Six Million at Greenwood Cemetery as we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and the heroism of survivors and rescuers. \nThis year is the 60th anniversary of Atlanta's Memorial to the Six Million. Since its construction was completed in 1965\, it has been a holy place where human ashes from Dachau and bars of soap from Jewish bodies are interred for eternity. It is a place for all to say Kaddish (mourner's prayer) and lay a stone on the tomb or for survivors and their descendants to place a flower on their loved ones' Yahrzeit (memorial) plaques inside the Memorial. As we do each year\, we will honor our Holocaust survivors in attendance. \nThis event is free and open to the public and is jointly sponsored by Eternal Life-Hemshech\, the William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum\, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. \nFor more information\, please visit the Eternal Life Hemshech website.

SUMMARY:How to Make a Home ⏺️
DESCRIPTION:Join Eden Levine as she co-hosts How to Make a Home\, a play by Out of Hand Theater\, as part of her Bat Mitzvah project to raise awareness about homelessness in Atlanta. \nHow to Make a Home\, part of Out of Hand Theater's "Shows in Homes" season\, is Amina McIntyre's original one-act play\, following Antonio\, a single father\, as he navigates Atlanta's Continuum of Care system to secure stable housing for himself and his ten-year-old daughter. Antonio contends with the frustrations of bureaucratic obstacles and daily life stressors\, striving to maintain hope while providing for his child. Through his story\, the play offers an emotional insight into the realities of homelessness and highlights available services for those in need. \nEnjoy an evening of inspired theater and thought-provoking conversation\, and learn ways to take action to create a more equitable world! \nTickets are $33 or $23 for students and seniors. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Scholar-in-Residence with Rabbi David Goodman ⏺️
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of learning\, connection\, and reminiscence as we welcome Rabbi David Goodman\, grandson of the beloved Rabbi Arnold Goodman (z"l)\, who served as Rabbi of Ahavath Achim Synagogue from 1982–2002. Together\, we'll honor his legacy through reflection\, connection\, and inspired learning. \nThe evening's topic of discussion will be Resilience and Renewal: Rabbi Akiva's Legacy After Tragedy. After the tragic loss of 24\,000 students\, Rabbi Akiva faced a crossroads. Rather than yielding to despair\, he chose to rebuild—with just five new students who would go on to shape the future of Jewish life and learning. Together\, we'll explore how this ancient story continues to offer profound guidance on perseverance\, purpose\, and the enduring power of renewal. \nRabbi David Goodman serves as rabbi of Moreshet Avraham\, a vibrant Masorti community in Jerusalem\, where he shares the pulpit with his wife and partner\, Rabbi Amirit Rosen. A passionate educator and thinker\, he is currently pursuing advanced research in Jewish Philosophy at Haifa University\, focusing on the evolution of religious thought in the 21st century. In addition to his rabbinic leadership\, Rabbi Goodman is deeply engaged in cultural and interfaith initiatives that foster dialogue\, understanding\, and mutual respect across communities. He proudly serves on the board of Rabbis for Human Rights and brings his love of teaching—and learning—to diverse settings throughout Israel and beyond. \nThe event is free to attend\, but registration is required by Thursday\, May 22. The location of the event is at a private residence—The address will be sent upon registration. \nQuestions? Contact Rabbi Laurence Rosenthal (lrosenthal@aasynagogue.org; 404.603.5744). \n Register

Do the words stir something in us\, inviting us to listen\, to question\, to join the chorus? In this session\, we’ll explore sugyot (passages) that reflect on the Talmud’s poetic\, legal\, and narrative dimensions\, and consider how this ancient text might also be a kind of song—one that deepens our connection to Jewish learning and tradition. \n\n\nImages of Sinai: Then and Now \nRabbi Neil Sandler \nExodus 19 is filled with vivid sensory imagery that sets the stage for the Israelites’ transformative encounter with Torah in chapter 20 at Mount Sinai. And how can tradition guide us amid rising antisemitism? Stephens writes\, "To have been born a Jew is the single most fortunate thing that ever happened to me." This Shavuot\, we'll reflect on Jewish identity as both a priceless inheritance and a living responsibility. \n\n\n\n\n\n2:00 a.m. \n\n\n\nBricks to Books: Rebuilding Without Stone \nRabbi Eric FeldWhat do you do when the very center of your world lies in ruins? Our sages answered with radical creativity\, reshaping Judaism from a Temple-centered religion into a faith rooted in study\, prayer\, and resilience. From Ruth’s bravery to Cyrus’s visionary leadership\, we’ll uncover how outsiders to the covenant became unexpected agents of divine purpose\, moral courage\, and justice. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the power of story and the surprising individuals who shape it. \n\n\nIs that REALLY Jewish?! This isn’t your typical Torah study. Join us for a deep dive into some of the strangest and most fascinating passages in Jewish texts—from Ezekiel’s wild angelic visions to surprising Talmudic teachings on Gehinom and the afterlife. You'll encounter ancient instructions for seeing demons (yes\, involving a black cat placenta) and explore how Talmudic wisdom can offer a path to personal healing in a session titled “Exercising Your Demons.” Perfect for the traditional Shavuot night of learning\, this program combines serious scholarship with the wonderfully weird side of Jewish tradition.
