Virtual Hunger Walk Run

From the Atlanta Community Food Bank:

Based on our continued monitoring and the recommendations by our partners and public officials, the Atlanta Community Food Bank will be cancelling our annual Hunger Walk Run that was scheduled to take place this Sunday because of the spreading COVID-19.

Hunger Walk Run is a critical fundraiser for the Food Bank and our many hunger relief partners in greater Atlanta and north Georgia. Right now, food pantries and community kitchens are preparing for how we will respond to the growing implications of this public health threat. As businesses and school systems change their operations, there is a ripple effect for the families and seniors already facing hunger. The community is counting on us to be ready to respond to this emergency.

For that reason, we are taking Hunger Walk Run virtual!

While we won’t be together in person, we can be together in spirit, showing the strength of our community and the passion we have to end hunger. Here’s how you can join in:

  1. Please continue fundraising and consider a special ask to your network to support the Food Bank in this time of uncertainty. A donation of $25 will help provide 100 meals and keep our essential services going.
  2. Take a selfie while walking in your neighborhood, rocking your treadmill, or spinning on your bike this weekend! Help us keep the energy of Hunger Walk Run going by posting your photo to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, tagging the Food Bank (@ACFB on Instagram and Twitter) and using the hashtag #HWR2020.

For our Hunger Walk Champions who have raised (or will raise) more than $500, we will have a special reception and celebration for you in a few months after the threat has passed.

We will have t-shirts available for everyone who registered in advance. Please check first with your team captain, company, or benefiting charity to see if they already have your shirt. If not, t-shirt distribution will be available on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, March 13 and Monday, March 16 between 9 am – 4 pm at 970 Jefferson Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.
  • Tuesday, March 17 – March 31 between 9 am – 4 pm at the Food Bank’s new home in East Point, 3400 North Desert Drive, Atlanta, GA 30344

If you have additional cash or check donations that you were planning to bring to the Walk, please bring them with you when picking up your shirt. Or email us at hungerwalk@acfb.org to make alternate arrangements.
